We live and work inside the green oval. The red areas on this map indicate “ooamekeihou” (torrential rain warnings) and the violet areas are where “tokubetsukeihou” (exceptional warnings) have been issued, which requires people to evacuate. The Kansai region has been largely red for the past three days, with the violet areas growing in the past 24 hours. More rain will continue today. The TV news is referring to this weather event as historically unprecedented.

The second picture shows the nascent typhoon now heading for Okinawa. It’s not clear where the tyhoon will decide to go, but they tend to veer inland toward us as often as not.
