He was never going to pay. He just wanted to put down Elizabeth Warren at the time and try to discredit her in media. He probably didn’t care either way at the time.

Yep. As evidenced by his and the WH’s insulting, dishonest, laughable response to this development.
“Going low” has become the GOP’s default setting for pretty much any interaction these days. AZ GOP Rep McSally accusing Dem Senate opponent Krysten Sinema of treason and supporting child molesters is evidence of the same. They don’t drain the swamp; they comprise it.
