I just spent about ten minutes trying to work out what obscure technical problem (a virus? a keyboard configuration glitch?) was causing my computer to produce an exclamation point every time I typed a capital “I”.

Then I accidentally discovered that a speck of dust (or something) was stuck to the screen. It occuded the lower part of the I, creating an exclamation point.
