This is the anniversary of activist folk musician Victor Jara’s brutal murder by the Pinochet regime. Several of my family members were imprisoned and tortured, and others forced into exile, by these fascists. Perhaps the finest moment of my life was sitting with assorted cousins in the home of a family friend near Valparaíso, drinking a toast to the death of Pinochet.
